Job Summary

Reporting to the Summer Camp Director, the Summer Camp Superintendent proactively and cooperatively plans the utilization of space and facilities at BCNY’s summer camp in Harriman State Park. Additionally, the Camp Superintendent coordinates and supervises the planning, engineering, construction, and maintenance of all BCNY camp buildings and grounds as well as ensures standard operating procedures and provides a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment. The Camp Superintendent assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the physical plant to ensure members, campers, staff, and visitors are provided with safe, clean, and professional facilities and grounds.

Key Responsibilities

Inspect all BCNY facilities, equipment, and grounds to determine needs and extent of required maintenance services and personnel
Develop and monitor the execution of a preventive maintenance schedule for all camp facilities
Work closely with the Summer Camp Director to manage a universal maintenance plan that includes operations of building structures, septic system, water supply, roof inspections, lake and lakefront, exterior surfaces, kitchen facilities, electrical panels, grounds, and related permitting and licensing
Review and promote security and property protection plans (theft, vandalism, and fire)
Supervise the camp maintenance workers, assign duties such as building maintenance, janitorial, and repairs or renovations
Review maintenance projects progress with Camp Director to ensure they do not exceed budgetary limits
Compile records of labor and material cost for operating buildings and maintaining grounds; issue periodic reports to the Summer Camp Director
Plan, budget and schedule maintenance and repair projects, including cost estimates, bid sheets, and layouts for projects and inspect construction and installation progress on a regular basis to ensure conformity to established specifications and according to standard operating procedures
Attend and participate in meetings and training activities/sessions as requested
In collaboration with the Summer Camp Director, recruit, train, and supervise all maintenance support staff
Complete performance evaluations for all maintenance staff prior to the end of the camp season
Manage emergent facilities and maintenance issues and inform Summer Camp Director

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, property management or related experience
Minimum five year’s experience in facilities management and three year’s experience in a campground including implementation of plans, project execution, fiscal management, and team leadership
Advanced knowledge of safety, security, and other regulatory issues as they relate to facilities management
Experience successfully supervising staff
Experience working with boys and young men in a camp/wilderness setting preferred
First Aid and CPR certification desirable
ACA/DOH training and certification strongly preferred
